Adventures
My dream is to work in the great outdoors. One of the ways I can bring this to reality is to work for the National Park Service and share my love of nature with others. While this is the dream end goal, Im not able to do it while still being a student.
When I decided to come to The Mount, the location and outdoor activities played a massive part in my decision. With that in mind, I was disappointed to learn that the outdoor adventure programming had been terminated before I arrived. For my first few semesters, I thought that this was simply a sad reality I would have to deal with, but I realized it was something that I did have the power to change, and so i decided to go for it.
My sentiment of wanting to be outside was not one I was alone in. The school knew this too, and when a school-hosted hike came into my inbox I decided this would be the perfect opportunity to strike up a conversation about the topic. My ideas were met with excitement that a student wanted to help revive the program, and while on the hike a commitment was made to try to bring the program back.
Fast forwarding to today, I am now a junior and one of the student leaders of the Adventures program. We now have funding from the school and have organized events for every weekend until 2025. We are finally able to share the beautiful outdoors with the members of The Mount community and allow them to experience nature as we have. It is truly a dream come true to be able to work in the Great outdoors and to share my love with this community.
